Closing night at the Opera

Unusually, this year we ended the year with a tour in one of the most – but not the only – wonderful work of the past period, the OPERA building, and a standing reception. The programme started with a guided tour and ended with a mini-concert in the Feszty Bar.

Colleagues could spend the last day of November exploring two wonderful buildings

The programme started in the Walter Rózsi villa which has been recently inaugurated. We had a great experience, as Pál Ritoók, the head of department of the Hungarian Museum of Architecture showed us around. He helped us to get a broader picture of the former life in the Villa and provided us some inside information about the reconstruction process, in which he played a significant role.

The event continued in the Róheim Villa, whose façade already provides a magnificent view. The interior, which was presented by Balázs Greskovics, our division manager, creates an amazing atmosphere with its modern furnishings and the reconstructed original decorative elements in many places.

The villa of the famous opera singer, Rózsi Walter, was renovated

The preservation of our national culture is unthinkable without the preservation of our built heritage, emphasised Minister Gergely Gulyás, Head of the Prime Minister's Office, at the inauguration ceremony of the Walter Rózsi Villa. The building, which will open on 18 May, is the capital's newest cultural venue in the Városliget area, primarily hosting architectural exhibitions and programmes.

György Vashegyi said that the MMA (Hungarian Academy of Arts) embraces a very broad spectrum of Hungarian art, in which architecture plays a central role. The institution was founded by architect Imre Makovecz, the creator of Hungarian organic architecture.

"For my predecessor, President György Fekete, the issue of the Hungarian Museum of Architecture was very important, an institution that has existed for more than fifty years with a huge collection, but without its own building and exhibition space."

The renovation of the villa, which was designed in 1936 for the famous opera singer Rózsi Walter and her family, began in the autumn of 2020, according to the plans of architect László Kokas, financed by the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMA) and executed by LAKI Zrt.
